According to reports, Samsung Electronics is gearing up for a new Galaxy S26 smartphone series to be made available at a higher price point. This will mainly be due to the costs of essential smartphone components that have been on the rise. The Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to include the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, is already set for a worldwide, including India, release in the month of February 2026. Also, it is said that the sales will start almost a month after the official launch.
This change is brought about by a global shortage of memory modules and other hardware components that have cause many mobile manufacturers to rethink and adjust their production cost. Reports say Samsung's Mobile Experience (MX) unit is having trouble keeping its production costs low as component prices keep going higher.
The increase in production costs, along with the pressure from competition, has made Samsung increase its investment in labor and marketing. These reasons are behind the company's pricing strategy and that can make the retail prices for the Galaxy S26 series higher than those for the Galaxy S25 lineup.
For reference, the Galaxy S25 was released in January 2025, with the standard model priced at Rs. 80,999 for 12GB + 256GB storage and Rs. 92,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant. The Galaxy S25+ was priced at Rs. 99,999 for the 256GB version and Rs. 1,11,999 for the one with 512GB. The S25 Ultra had the prices of Rs. 1,29,999, Rs. 1,41,999, and Rs. 1,65,999 for 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, respectively.
It is being reported that Samsung has also taken a second look at the Galaxy S26 Edge and may even be giving up the very thin designs because of the efficiency problems. People from the industry have said that the elevated costs of DRAM and other components have been the main reason for Samsung's decision to change its pricing strategy to uphold its profit margins.
Analysts foresee a significantly higher cost for the Galaxy S26 series compared to the previous model, which will be the result of the overall influence of the rise in material prices and the marketing investments. The new series is expected to be on par with the development of the iPhone 18 that is set to come out in 2026, among other new smartphones.
The Galaxy S26 series is probably the most eagerly awaited and talked-about smartphone of the year 2026, as the launch price can either make or break the premium phone market in India and dying regions.
